How to start dMAT preparation

Start by learning what each task asks you to do. A productive first session ends with a method you can explain, a short list of mistakes and a plan for the next attempt. The aim is to make your reasoning more reliable before trying to make it faster.
Start with the official instructions
The official preparation page provides instructions, examples, solutions and interface videos. Find one specific weakness
Try the short 11-question diagnostic: 2 questions each in figures, equations and Latin squares, plus one complete 5-question academic passage. Then inspect each explanation. A small sample cannot measure aptitude or estimate an official score; it can show whether you missed a rule, a calculation, a constraint or a passage condition. If you guessed correctly, review that item too.
Write a precise learning goal: “check both future frames” is actionable; “get better at figures” is too broad. Choose one topic below and work through the example without opening the answer first.
A repeatable 35-minute session
- 5 minutes: recall yesterday’s method and one error without looking at the explanation.
- 15 minutes: practise one area. Begin in learning mode and explain the decisive step before submitting.
- 10 minutes: review wrong, guessed and unusually slow answers. Identify the first step that failed.
- 5 minutes: try one fresh example or mentally replay the corrected method.
This is a suggested study routine, not an official timetable. Shorten it if concentration falls; preserve the review step.
Move towards mental work
The official PDF prohibits taking notes during the test. Written diagrams can help when first learning a method, but later rehearse it mentally. For a Latin square, keep just the two candidates needed for your next deduction. For equations, remember the reduced equation rather than every intermediate line.
